To: mclance@nacs.net Re:Luke Slater Date: 9/10/97 Lance, here is an official response from NovaMute in the UK and from Luke himself Thanks for the help in this matter. Talk to you soon Marc -------------------------------------- Date: 9/10/97 3:40 PM From: Pepe Jansz & Marc Schrap REGARDING Luke Slater Dear Gil Gersham, I've heard you are very well respected journalist so I am very disappointed by the email I have just received concerning your comments regarding Luke Slater signing to NovaMute. I am confused, mainly because journalists I have previously dealt with have always researched their facts before putting pen to paper (or in your case fingers to keyboard!). Remember, there are two sides to every story. To fully answer your false accusations: 1. This is NovaMute's album and the material has been specifically recorded for the label. The album that Luke has delivered to GPR is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ALBUM. If Mr. Archibald chooses not to release this album, then that is his business. 2. We have not stolen Luke from GPR. We have been informed by written confirmation from Luke's lawyer that Luke is out of contract with GPR. When one receives such information from a registered legal representative one assumes all is well and above board. I have tried to have a discussion with Mr Archibald from GPR but all I received was verbal abuse and termination of the call by him. 3. As far as justice is concerned, why don't you have discussions with GPR and it's former artists to get a fairer picture. 4. Mute is and always has been an independent label! 5. NovaMute has yet to lose any of it's recording artists and we have been supporting the techno scene for the last 6 years and will continue to do so. NovaMute I have forwarded your email to Mr Slater, who has responded thus: "The album is NovaMute's album. The music I recorded for NovaMute is nothing to do with the last album I recorded for GPR before I left. The album GPR holds and paid money for is a totally different album. I recorded the Novamute album after I left GPR. I am not under contract to so called GPR and have every right to record for who I want Bless you" Luke Slater ..................................... End of message. Why is this so difficult to understand? Cheers!
