who the hell is (was?) Blue Binary? i recently picked up the As One remix album -- Reflections on Reflections -- and there's a gorgeous track by someone (W. Bauer) under this name. definitely classic IDM; in the detunings there are hints of SAW II. fantastic stuff. you know, i don't know much about As One -- i've read DeGiorgio's recent writing on Moogs for the Wire, and I know his later stuff is jazzier; can someone give me a quick encapsulation? where would be a good place to start? thanks p

Supposedly Blue Binary is by someone named Werner Bauer. The only other Blue Binary tracks I've seen have been on comps for ART and Xtreme. I've always suspected that it was another guise for Kirk DeGiorgio because they have such a similar sound and all Blue Binary track appear on releases on Kirk DeGiorgio-related releases. Regardless, I would also love to know if more Blue Binary tracks exist and I agree with Phil that Blue Binary's sound is excellent The other Blue Binary tracks are on: . Redcell/Esoterik/Blue Binary comp 12" (ART 7.1) Track: Blue Binary: solaris . Check One comp 2xcd (Xtreme) Track: Blue Binary: vell

I personally prefer DeGiorgio's earlier releases on ART, New Electronica, and Shield which are in the melodic string-laiden detroit-influence electronica sound. His Clear label releases are a mix of DeGiorgio's love of detroit & jazz and all subsequent releases are more jazz than detroit. In my opinion, the best As One releases are his earliest ones and his contributions as producer as well as label head of ART rank as some of the best things that he has ever done. Ok, enough praise, here is my obligatory discography: Releases: . As One/Future Past/Zee# 12" (B1203) . As One: Mihara/Dance of the Uighurs 12" (New Electronica) .
