hello
here's the thrilling news from paper and repap. we thought you'd be
interested, but if you'd like to unsubscribe, follow the link at the
bottom of this message...
pete, ben and miles have just come back from a month in new zealand
where they played at one of the first parties of the millennium, and
yes, i know you're all wondering, what record did they play at 12?
well i can reveal that it was "bat dance" by prince. what a great way
to start a new millennium! erm, it wasn't "bat dance", that was an
attempt at humour, sorry. elliot stayed at home with his kids, and
let them light fireworks, put their wet fingers in plug sockets and
then get pissed. there are exciting remixes coming up: crazy penis
remixing the problem kids and shaboom remixing crazy penis. it's like
a big riddle. anyway, here's what paper has got coming out, in a bit.
>>> pap045 the new aluminists - get down on it
the new aluminists are timmy stewart and glenn mcCartney and they are
made out of aluminium. it was a terrible accident in second year
combined science at school. it hasn't stopped them enjoying life and
making music. they also run a record label called product deluxe, but
only people with a metal limb or pins in their body are allowed on it.
it's a sort of trust.
<<< released 28th february 2000
>>> pap046 essa - africans in space
after sleeping in bus shelters and singing for their supper, essa are
back with a new single. it's a musical version of the first africans
in space. they were bob, alan and craig. their spaceship was made
out of the none conventional materials of mud and tin. it worked and
they earned their place in history. this is essa's tribute to those
fine men.
<<< released 20th march 2000
>>> pap047 problem kids - feel alright (with crazy penis remix)
the problem kids, if you haven't already heard about them are rocky, 6
and mark, 9. they go out every night and get totally pissed and then
take 7.6 e's each. then they have some heroin. they live in a home.
<<< released 3rd april 2000
on the album front the next release will be:
>>> papcd/lp008 hot toddy - stratocoaster
hot toddy is chris todd from crazy penis, and he's decided to take on
a solo project 'cos he hates the rest of the band; he thinks they're
knobheads. the album is preceded by a single that'll be out before it,
so you can buy it before the album, so you know what the album will be
kind if like it
<<< released 1st may 2000
that's enough of paper, here's what repap's got to offer. what we've
got coming out is exactly the same as last time 'cos the dates got put
back.
>>> repap005 rune lindbaek - junta jaeger / robo erotikk
always a favourite with the ladies, rune has made his first solo
single for us. we're happy 'cos we like it. it has strings and drums
and guitars and oooh noises and if you listen closely, you can hear
the chuckle of the magical norwegian gnome, laughing by the bubbling
brook. he he hee.
<<< released 13th march 2000
>>> repap006 truant - change yo mind / our sad song
this is truants second release for repap. jason from truant has been
growing one hair on his head since he was four, while the others have
been kept neat. ben from truant has been documenting this, in a rough
book.
<<< released 27th march 2000
>>> repap007 bobby trafalgar - hardballs
(andy votel remix) / sad samba (truant remix)
this singles special, 'cos some people have decided to mess around a
bit. these people are andy votel of twisted nerve fame who is very
much fashion and truant who you know enough about, and we'll here no
more from them. anyway, they've chosen their favourite tracks of
bobby's album, and moved bits of the song around and added
bits. clever.
>>> repapcd/lp001 bobby trafalgar - in person
after loads of arsing about, we are finally releasing bobby's
album. bobby is an old, mad from romania and made film tracks in the
60's. he hung around with roman polanski, had a band called the
trafalgar squares and then his wife left him for another lady. there's
a lesson in there somewhere.
<<< released 28th february 2000
less tunes, more rave:
>>> robodisco the giant of clubs that it is, is still going strong,
with a great start to the year in january with the dark lord that is
kenny hawkes. he played to a packed, sweaty, pretty much rancid club
on the 15th of january and last saturday (19th february) we had ian
pooley, herbert live feat. dani and ben davis and miles hollway they
all went down a treat next month we've got:
a soulsonic / faith party with
maurice fulton
tom middleton exclusive live set with blue effect
and miles hollway
that's on the 18th march
on april 15th we have
doc martin
and shaboom
great!
<<< it's at planet k, oldham street, manchester, 7 pounds advance 8
pounds on the door 10pm - 3am
here's what the boys are doing:
>>> ben and elliot in leaving atlantic 252 shocker!!!!!
well, sort of. they left in a kind of forced way, sort of pushed. they
were sacked. the station doesn't seem to want to play decent music
anymore and have got rid of all the specialist shows which is a good
thing to do. they now play what you the listener want to here; trance,
a1, s club 7, adam rickett all the greats. elliot's comments on the
disaster was: "they're all a bunch of c***s." fair do's i say. don't
cry though my lovelies, elliot and ben will be back soon with a new
fresh creative thing, they just haven't worked out what it's going to
be yet.
>>> other than picking his sorry soul up off the floor after the
devastating news, ben has been back in the studio with his partner and
on/off lover dick johnson. they haven't been doing anything, just sort
of hanging around trying to look cool, before they go to america for a
holiday, sorry, tour. they've only just got back from new zealand and
they're now swanning off again. life is one big laugh when you're ben
davis.
>>> oh, speaking of america, on monday 27th we're having a do at the
miami music conference in conjunction with diesel and jockey slut and
sleazenation. miles will be playing along with kenny hawkes, swayzak
live and gram and homer from nyc! should be good that one.
>>> miles has been hanging around london quite a bit as him and elliot
have started a new monthly residency at headstart @ turnmills. they
seem to be enjoying themselves as they get quite a bit of attention
from girls. good luck to them. he's also back in the studio with
elliot and hopefully we will see a release from them before, well just
a release, they're so slow. anyway, it's a cover of an old disco track
- runaway love and it's got veba from rae and christian singing on it
which is eclectic. she's been in magazines.
>>> other than that, his miles' computer has broken and he's taken to
growing a beard. he looks like a mad man. we are all very concerned
and i'm sure you would be if you saw him too. we have to work with
him, imagine how we feel. terrified.
>>> elliot has now made a move to journalism, well if you can call it
that. he's now writing for a new fanzine called faith and it's from
that wacky lot from that london who put on the soulsonic night. it's
good. elliot has a page at the back, which he fills with garbled
rubbish. check it out if you like that sort of thing, also it won't
cost you anything, so all you tight arsed gypsies won't miss out.
he's got an article coming up in jockey slut where he has to write
seriously, so that'll be a struggle for him as he's so daft and
crazy. he's also doing pieces for colouring in fortnightly, cogs and
bolts weekly and he's got a regular column in side parting
monthly. he's also done a remix for the trendy twisted nerve label;
the group who he's remixed are dakota oak, who are a guitar band, the
results are very interesting. don't know when it's coming out but
it'll probably be late april / may time. it's also going to be a
limited edition so, there might be fights over it, well maybe. apart
from all that, he's still playing records in clubs and generally
dicking about. i guess success just doesn't change some people.
>>> and pete has been keeping the whole thing together, 'cos those lot
are crap.
