Regarding the common use on this list of Maralyn Manson as the symbol of "everything we're up against": I don't like Maralyn Manson's music one bit, but the fact that kids all over america are buying records with a song on it called "cocksucker forever" has GOT to be a good news for the future. I'm damned proud of todays kids who think that sickly cross dressing Satan worshipping S&M bisexual men are cool. Seriously. Better him than aerosmith. Better him than Billy Ray Cyrus. Better him than U2. If you have to pick an example of something which is popular with stupid people, I don't think Maralyn Manson is the best example. How bout Celine Dion or No Doubt or even Tupac? Maralyn Manson may be cheesy, but he's actually one of the best hopes we have for destroying conventional morality and the Christian Right in this country. More power to him if that's his goal. And it probably is.

Destroy conventional morality? hehe. What's that? What would you replace it with? Manson-ality? What a wonderful world that would be(rolling eyes) - we could all pretend to be evil and the devil incarnate when all we would really be after is to sell a few records. There's no getting around the fact that Manson is fucking ridiculous shock-rock. Their music is a joke, all it has to stand up on is dressing up funny. You're putting way too much importance on a band that people will have long forgotten in 2 years and who will probably be remembered with much less fondness than Alice Cooper (wonder what he's up to these days?), whose act they've blatantly stolen. And there is no difference between them and Celine Dion or No Doubt, they are all pop bands - only manson wears more makeup. _____ / ,-,_) /,_) (/ RESH Live & Direct from the G-Spot, Orange County, California, USA http://www1.linkonline.net/fresh/fresh.htm

Which doesn't strike me as any more useless a pose than any of the ones that float around this list on a regular basis.

So you're saying Manson and his Spooky Kids aren't a pop band?

rock n roll rebel! keep buying those evil prodigy records, man, and we'll all bow at your blue suede feet and say 'boy, isn't he going against the grain? what a rock and roll rebel, i want to ram his used chewing gum up my arsehole' on a much darker note, i have the forthcoming gerd lp on universal language and it's quite lovely. non-confrontational music for music's sake, which is just how i like it 5/10 of the time np - oversimplification - magnetic vault volume four this touch is greater than mood - gerd aisha - john coltrane ~~~ Through universes of worlds of shadows, S G the subconscious geography remains a constant. ~~~ Makyo 622AD

In the context of yesterday, today, and tomorrow... M. Manson has put his band members (I believe at least one but he's certainly tried with the others) into hospital for "getting it wrong" during live gigs. He's also been quoted in a british heavy metal mag as saying that "they deserved what they got". I'm not going to explain why I don't like this (it may not be that hard to fathom). However, I like No Doubt, Celine Dion, Amy Grant ["when she gets home from church, she's got to take off her pants" courtesy Young Fresh Fellows :) ] etc..., even less so what is my point???
