i'm going to say yes on this one. maybe it doesn't stand up to the bytes
lp, which is after all the best record anyone will ever make on this
planet, but for me it has something which is unique amongst a deluge of
formula-driven clinical muzak. plaid may make pleasing noises, but it
doesn't have very much that resonates *within* me, it just sounds way too
cold and academic to even compare to the classic tbd material, which
adverts is a great deal closer to imho. i think adverts is a lot better
than the people here on idm give it credit for. it might have dull
production in places, but production isn't everything, and at least ken is
playing with the formulas, trying to make something new

reload is a must buy, whether it's the short stories lp or the new archive
ep. alec empire, well i don't see much appeal in his records. you could
do a lot worse than the new lps by squarepusher autechre or as one. or get
hold of herbie hancock's headhunters lp which is on a reissue at the
moment, and discover where all these techno guys stole their ideas from ;-)
