Yeah, but it's a bit shit isn't it? Too much chaff and so many missing classics. Where's Public Enemy? I like the way the compilers have completely missed out around 6 years worth of hip-hop, where's Man Parrish or, come to think of it, any electro? And a kewpie doll to the bright guy who chose 'Eye Know' over 'Me Myself and I' and 'Peter Piper' over 'Sucker MCs'.... Doug Lazy, King Bee, Twin Hype, House Of Pain, KID N PLAY?? Whoops. To misquote the Twin Hype effort.. 'For Those Who Like Fresh Prince Of Bel Air' On Now? Arched Maid Via RDJ -= Affx

Well, for me the compilation was just alright, because I've missed a lot of that stuff, and I already owned those Public Enemy albums which have actually been my only contact to hip-hop so far. So with hip-hop I still consider myself a beginner. Of course it's the eternal problem of putting together any compilations, since there's always stuff that someone thinks is missing or doesn't suit there. I guess 'Hip Hop Don't Stop' was actually compiled from quite a "commercial" point of view from the beginning, but even as such it works for me OK. ekku the maintainer of pHinnWeb - everything u ever wanted to know about Finnish techno scene but were too afraid of the reindeer trerra@uta.fi | http://www.uta.fi/~trerra | http://www.sci.fi/~phinnweb

and 'Peter Piper' over 'Sucker MCs'< Abso-chuffin-lutely. I'd gladly hand over my house and all its contents in return for 'Sucker MCs'. And as for all those so-called late 80s classics... how come they left out The Beatmasters And MC Merlin? ;-) (And much as I remember it with great fondness, I seem to recall that Eric B and Rakim hated that Coldcut mix of 'Paid In Full' cos it made 'em come across like "a pair of dancing clowns".) I've heard that as well - and Coldcut subsequently released an instrumental version entitled "Not Paid Enough."
