Susan Goldman <sg@thing.net> writes: "anyone heard this cd The Unfinished?
(on Sub Rosa - Locust, Mick Harris, lilith & David Toop)"
I have, and I find it quite enjoyable. The CD rings up at 45
minutes, and here's the full track listing:
1) Locust - "1966"
2) Mick Harris - "Tap"
3 - 5) Lilith - "From The Activity Box"
6) David Toop - "Boneless"
7) Locust - "Winter"
Both of the Locust tracks were recorded in 1995, and continue in the
fine tradition of "Truth Is Born Of Arguments". "1966" is a Warpish track
that would sound right at home on an Artificial Intelligence sampler, while
"Winter" is an odd assortment of random sounds that Van Hoen attempts to
construct what seems to be his first electro-acoustic track. It grows on me
more and more.
The Mick Harris piece works the best of all these tracks. A strident
drum beat and various samples that are buried deep in the mix. No Lull
sounds found here. Lilith follows with a musique concrete piece of various
sounds. Bells, tapping sounds, and other strange noises. David Toop follows
with 11 minutes of more strange experimental sounds.
In short, buy only in you're a Locust completist, or open to
experimental sounds. Toss out the first two tracks, and this is a
experimental music sampler.
