I thought it was the invention of CD players that killed vinyl.

Muh! Either you didn't read my post properly, or else you're simply
lacking a clue or two. Stuff such as Bantha Trax isn't sitting in the
stores. It's sitting in a warehouse that belongs to our distributors,
be it someone like Vital or Disc. Just about every other music store
you care to name uses the same distributors. If you order Bantha Trax
from Virgin, you'll get it from Disc's warehouse. If you order Bantha
Trax from some techno specialist shop in Manchester, you'll get it
from Disc's warehouse. Kind of ruins your whole argument, doesn't it?

Yeah, well not everyone in the world is a 100% IDM merchant. If it's
commercial stuff you're after, the chart discounts are ideal. You
won't find cheaper prices on new mass-market commercial releases outside
the big chains. If it's non-IDM stuff you're after, then there's not
many independents you can go to.
Of course, if all you're going to buy is obscure IDM, then the big
chainstores aren't ideal (and I never said they were). I use a lot
of independent specialists myself, but since I work at Virgin I take
whatever opportunity I can to get hold of certain items. And, of
course, I get juicy staff discounts too. Ie, all of Gescom's
releases only cost me a tenner in total.
So, are we gonna talk about music, or have you got more sour grapes
to crush?
