I understand one aspect of the anti-RDJ sentiment. Lots of his recent music is very silly, I like it, but many do not for the same reason many did not like SAW2- it's different. Not to sound too harsh, but many people just want more of the same: brooding pretty songs with neat drums. He has plenty of shitty songs, I'm not a blind follower. But there's always more good than bad. Nor do I see how SAW1 is glorified. I usually skip to my favorite couple of tracks. Much of it bores me. Nor are all of the songs on "Classics" that wonderful. I find that he has maintained the same level of quality throughout his (still short) music writing career. Just as you look back, the not-so-good stuff is (rightly) forgotten. So it's always a surprise when it pops up in the present.

It's not so much that I'm being anti-RDJ (I still consider myself pro-RDJ), but I just feel that his recent output has missed the mark. Not that I want a return to the SAW-1 tracks or anything, but I don't really feel that he's being as experimental as a lot of people think. His current output is certainly different, but the point of experimenting should be to seek out new avenues worthy of exploration. As far as I can see, there's not many avenues presenting themselves, which is probably why RDJ's style is fluctuating wildly at the moment.
