I got the Lamb: Cotton Wool ep aboout a month ago and, after countless listens, absolutely love it. The wildly irratic beats on the first mix are wonderful. Fila Brizilla and A Guy Called Gerald also add their midas touch to this ep. I've heard that Autechre are mow remixing a track for Lamb as well. Does anybody know when this will be released? Does anybody know when or if a Lamb full length is coming? I can't wait for more Lamb (chops?)! -->-Lance--- mclance@en.com

A palette of jungle-tinged melancholy trip hop with lush vocals that fortunately avoid a cliched wailing diva sound. onnow: Spacetime Continuum "Emit Ecaps" (Reflective) Lame Thread Prevention in Effect: Aaron Michelson --------------------------------------------------------------------- aw-teck'r (autechre) "Everything you Know is Wrong." Well, *I* wouldn't. :) Prompted by statements such as this, I had a listen to 'Dummy' right after a listen to 'Lamb' not too long ago. Even though Portishead immediately rose to the top of my list when they first appeared, I was unprepared for the complete excellence of their record, even 2 years later. I found that I had mistakenly lumped Portishead in with the flood of acts that make use of downtemp/samples. Fact is, 'Dummy' has a sound that no one has stolen from it. I half-remember a statement like, 'Beth's vocals make Morrisey sound like a Hallmark greeting card' or something to that effect, and I kept thinking that as the 'Lamb' vocalist (not on a first-name basis with her yet :) ) kept using some few blue-note riffs on track after track. Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying 'Lamb' a WHOLE lot. I mean, there are tracks on there that really melt my butter, eg all the ones with the insane plucked/bowed string work, but.. There's a reason Geoff and Beth were referred to as 'the almighty Portishead' on this very list when 'Dummy' appeared. cheers, Brad

He has a remix on the single for "Softly", which is from Lamb's new album, "Fear Of Fours". The album rules, incidentally. If you want a bunch of information on Lamb, check out the official site.. http://www.cottonwool.com It's got a complete discography, interviews, etc etc.. and it's got a RealAudio clip of the Bola remix, come to think of it. -danny

Does your copy of the album have the track markers all fucked up? Mine are. Obviously, the track 4 thing is deliberate, but I've found that almost most (if not all of) the tracks begin about 3 seconds after the track marker and finish about 2 seconds into the next one. Oh, and in case no-one's noticed, there's an Autechre 'ep7' style hidden track if you rewind about 6 minutes from track 1. -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/
