I seem to remember a discussion recently about the difficulty of translating electronic music into a live format - especially a live setting where instruments are actually played, as opposed to using DAT tapes or sequencers. Fila Brazilia have made some real progress in this realm. Granted, their music involves more "real" instrumentation than the vast majority of stuff discussed on this list, but they are still to be commended for the sound of their new live sextet. They manage to reproduce their studio sound without disappointing, yet the unmistakable sweetness of a "live feel" is present. I, for one, cannot wait for the touring that is proposed for this year, according to their new website at http://www.tritone.co.uk There are three mp3's of live fila recordings at this website...these are the source of my insight into their live sound. The mp3 of "the new cannonball" is particularly tasty. - Fred Church bigkumquat@aol.com http://www.nofuncharlie.com/kumquat - you, yes you, can still get a free kumquat cd! - --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

autechre & mu-ziq & push button objects were all amazing at the coachella festival. i don't know if it's difficult for it to translate or not, but if it is, these people are exceptionally talented... i guess that was never in question though, n'est pas? love, gregory, death
