I read an Orb interview a long time ago, it said that Jim Cauty from the KLF got his idea for Chill Out, from hearing Alex spin at some chill out room in London. The same article mentioned that Alex invented the chill out room at some club in London. I have also heard that the KLF stole drumbeats that Alex came up with, and didn't even credit Alex. I not a hundred percent on this, but supposedly the Drumbeats on 3am eternal are LXs. I was very surprised that Alex played something from Chill Out, perhaps they were his ideas in the first place. Maybe not, I heard him play a track off Brian Eno's - Apollo at another show, I can't recall the name of Ending .... something. I know the name, I am just drawing a blank. He also played the Theme from Shaft. B i l l S a m u e l s w l s @ U . A r i z o n a . E D U *****************************************************************************

Yeah, it was "chill out," which as it turns out, alex patterson had a good deal to do with the production of. That's why apparantly the klf and lx don't get along, because he was never credited for any of it. What bollocks. But you're right, it was amazing hearing it through such an awesome system. Yeah, I caught that too. Seemed like at least the first 5 minutes of the album. I thought I'd noticed that famous Benny Goodman clarinet sample about 10 minutes earlier, than to my surprise, the mix settled down to a straight-up rendition of the KLF's stuff. Very cool, and very unexpected. Nice touch. I don't know anything about the politics of their relationship, but I was under the impression that the album "Space" was by Jimmy Cauty and Alex Patterson, neither of which's name is on the darn thing, and that that was the extent of the Orb/Klf collaboration. There's GOT to be a FAQ somewhere with this answered in it. eric

yeah, I might have splotched things a bit. What I meant to say was that the KLF was inspired to do this album by Alex Patterson's chill out rooms at some club in London. And some of the beats on The White Room are Alex's, yet he never got credited. So, anyway, I think Bill Samuels' reply was more in the right than mine. Refer to his for the full story. The KLF/Orb connection is lot tighter than that -- Jimi Cauty occupied the second seat in the Orb from the band's start until shortly before the release of "Little Fluffy Clouds". -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo)

The rumour that LX should have something to do with the production of "Chill out" probably comes from people who mix up "Chill out" with "Space". "Space" was originally LX and Jimmy's album -- then Jimmy took out LX's contributions and released it as a solo album. Perhaps some of LX's input is still left. There are more Orb/ KLF links: o Jimmy Cauty was a member of the Orb 1989-1990. o LX, Youth, Jimmy, Thrash made the rare compilation album "Eternity project one". In addition to the tracks on the album, some unreleased tracks from this session also featuring Bill appear on demo tapes -- "Alex vs. the KLF" for example. o LX compiled "The What time is love story". o LX remixed "What time is love?" onto a bootleg which I have never seen. o "Madruagada bandalu" from 1993 was the KLF/ the Orb reunion, though to be honest I have never heard this one either. +---------------------------- Johan Jaatinen ----------------------------+ | | | MU WILL RISE AGAIN | | | +----- enigmatically posting as Anika Agebjoern <AniAg@Info.LiU.se> -----+
