Yes, Lawrence Welk was ambient listening. Heck, he was even a drug pusher! hehehe! Oh yeah, Cissy and a Bobby showed us the latest hardcore dance steps. BTW, as a child, I used to sit and watch that show with my grandmother on Saturday evenings--it was the *only* thing on. Be thankful if you're growing up in the '90s. One of the side benefits of being a second cousin of Nelson Riddle was that when I was a wee sprat I met a lot of the evil entertainment spawn of LA, including Mitch Miller, who really should have been a Hell's Angel. And while we're on the subject of LW, let us not forget the inimitable accordian styings of Myron Floren. Before there was slam dancing there was the spectacle of tipsy farmers cracking their date's ribs as they polka headlong into the cinderblock walls of midwestern dance halls. Big up polka massive! This is the bomb! I'm starting a "Polka Crew" in Tucson. Polka is the coolest thing since gregorian chants. If anyone is interested in joining my new P.M., e-mail me. (Accordian players needed!!). Ahhh yeah! The lover is in the house! Glad to see some old skoolers talking about some _real_ "originators", unlike MBM. Great, now the legacy of threads continues..., but seriously, MBM had nothing to do with electro, unlike the Egyptian Lover. He rocks. Egad... when I was little I was positively addicted to the show... a sign of things to come?

Hell, I still watch it every Saturday night at 6:00pm on PBS. I actually look forward to it. It's quality entertainment. I don't usually listen to it (when I do the music is good enough), but I love checking out the style and that Arthur Duncan is a crazy tape-dancin' maniac. I wish I was joking, but I'm not. It's a good show. MC

I just wanted to add that Myron Floren played at one of my sister's "Band-o- rama" performances back in the '70s. (Band-o-rama is a thing that the Glendora High School Marching Band puts on EVERY year) I remember him sitting up on stage at the Haugh Performing Arts Center at Citrus College and the audience clapped and sang along. A standing ovation ensued... My dad loves to polka. He's from Indiana--grew up on a farm. Not too sure about him ramming into any cinderblock walls with Mom though. Mom's also from Indiana and grew up on a different farm. She swears that she's tone deaf, but Dad likes to tell the story of how she hummed "The Wedding March" on their first date... Born to march to any drum, Renee
