I figured I'd ask you guys about this since there's a lot of IDM releases that are vinyl only... I'm burning a bunch of my 12"s and albums to hard disk by hooking the tape outs from my stereo to the RCA inputs of my soundcard (audiomedia II) and it sounds fine for the most part. However, there's this low level hum that becomes noticeable during quiet passages. It's not just turntable noise. It really becomes audible if I raise the pitch of the recordings/samples... Does anyone else have this problem or know how to get rid of it? Is it as simple as getting a better turntable? And while I'm at it, can anyone recommend a good cdr labeling program/package? thanx! The hum is coming from the turntable and the computer not sharing a single ground. If you take a piece of wire and attach it to your turntable ground, and screw it down to a screw on your computer case, the hum should disappear.

Adaptec's EZ CD Creator 4 has a nice labeling system, as well as tons of options, include direct MP3 to CDR recording, fade-in fade-out, track crossovers, etc.. step@systorm.com ___--___-__-__-_-_- systorm technologies http://www.systorm.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sounds like a group loop hum.. AM II makes me think you have a nubus mac, but either way make sure that you have a wire that runs from the ground post of your mixer, and connect the other end to the metal frame of your computer.. you may have to pull the case open, and find a place in the metal shielding of your machine that you can touch a good part of the wire to, and close the case back down so it secures the wire. ernie Ernesto Ikerd, (817) 763-4795 Company Graphics, Dept 17, MZ-1156 Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems Fort Worth, Texas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I spent about 1800$ on a setup (with a real nice Turtle Beach soundcard) for which I had precisely the same thing in mind. Imagine my chagrin when I had *exactly* the same problem which persisted no matter what kind of filter, etc. I used (even on the AC plug). Let me ask you one simple question (which I posted to the list just because it is SO simple and saved me so much money. Do you know what it costs to have someone come in and check your entire system for shorts?!)...is your amp connected in any way to your cable tv setup? Cable connex are poorly shielded and infamous for introducing low frequency hum into environments such as the one you're using. Try disconnecting your cable input (if you have one) from your amp. Hope this helps. jeff ps I don't label cdrs simply because a label can often imbalance it. Not noticeable for normal play, but if you try high speed DAE with it (to make another copy/whatever) later, you just may find it impossible without dropping speed radically. Howard Shih wrote:
