Tower New Orleans: French Quarter
Semi-decent selection of goods.
They have integrated the cheese-rave top40 dance in
with the real digs, so you have to filter out a bunch
of crap in the 'dance' section. Large supply of CD5's.
Some vinyl, not much. A large number of good IDM/Ambient
discs are in either the Pop/Rock sections or the New Age
sections, but this is true of MOST record chains because
THESE PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS!
Underground Sounds: Uptown (New Location on Magazine St. Looks dangerous)
Lots and lots of rare vinyl including imported Kraftwerk.
Expensive. Not much IDM. Some cool orb 12"s were
there last time I went. Mostly post-modern 80's
alternative, classic alternative, punk, but a few IDM
jewels can be found.
Spice Records : Metairie
Last I saw, they were defunct. :( Very damn sad.
They had the absolute BEST selection of IDM and acid
etc etc etc I have ever seen in one place. All on
vinyl, too. It was a shop run by a DJ so he had
buttloads of equipment and records. Its worth it to
check to see if he has opened up the shop again.
As far as I know these are the only worthwhile places to look in greater NO.
