Do you know anything about music? Can you play an instrument? Work with
notes?

I thought you are serious about it? How do you want to record your work?
Forget about audio tapes! Sooner or later you'll need a DAT and if you are
into harddisc recording, sampling etc.... the DAT is an important tool to
store data (like sounds but also normal programs).

Depends on how you want to work. Of course you can only work with samples
in the computer (like a tracker). Sooner or later you will work with
midi-equipment. General midi is unimportant.
