first, some shameless self-promotion:
i have two tracks on the "Darker Side Of Jazz" compilation that has just
been released. it's a compendium of artists from San Francisco's Mephisto
Records. my stuff is a little more on the electronic/dub/wacked out tip.
the comp is distributed by Moonshine so it should be available everywhere.
now some mini reviews:
origins of a sound - an amazing compilation of detroit electro featuring
juan atkins, mad mike, drexciya, aux88 and more. i'm not too crazy about
the aux88 tracks but the rest is *solid* with snaky 808 hi hats hissing
continuously over a bed of fat beats and spitting synths. oh yeah. not
only recommended - REQUIRED.
planet dub - a double CD of electronic dub from Planet Dog. this is really
quite excellent. really well produced, super smooth dub that shows that
all the participants have deep respect for the source. the influence of
the original jamaican producers hovers over the whole thing, smiling
happily down on what the children have wrought. some standout tracks from
silicon drum, children of the bong, full moon scientist and the
ever-reliable eat static.
