i think panasonic gets called 'ultra-minimal' because of the nature of
their sounds and their subtlty. subtlty is one thing, most subtly
working bands don't get called minimal. but the one thing that sets
panasonic out is that each damned sound is so lucid, and they emphasize
this. they don't throw in vocals or samples or super-effects. it's just
plain old, amped up sound. that's pretty damned minimal if you think of
it.
as for autechre, on the peel sessions i strictly remember johnnie saying
'aw-tech-ur' and i didn't hear the 'aw-tek-re' on the cd. but anyways.
:)
ultraviolence is playing the phantasy nite club in lakewood ohio december
16th, speaking of johnnie.
