Talking of the Planet Dog Peel Sessions... I saw this CD only yesterday for ten quid, I think it has 3 tracks by Eat Static, 3 by Banco and 2 by Timeshard (or something like that). Are the recordings good and is it worth buying? I've got stuff by Banco De Gaia, and I recognise the ES tracks but I've never heard any Timeshard stuff... Worth a tenner would you say? Keith.

I might be totally alone here but IMVHO, I think this CD sucks. The sounds and songs were drawn-out and pretty unimaginative and although I've heard worse, it just totally failed to surprise, inspire or move me in any way whatsoever. IMHO, of course. || [CiM] || u9323899@sys.uea.ac.uk || http://www.sys.uea.ac.uk/~u9323899/

I'd say it depends on whether or not you like the acts in question to begin with, as the tracks that I recognize from the albums are almost exact duplicates. The Banco de Gaia tracks don't add anything new, really, making them a complete waste of space (unless you've never heard them before of course). Not having heard the Timeshard and 2 of the 3 Eat Static tracks, I have to say they're pretty good. Timeshard have a weird hippy vibe, sitars and tripped out reggae stuff - nice, especially if you like On-U Sound. But of course the real reason I bought it was for the Eat Static tracks and I was not disappointed. "Bioforms" completely spazzes out in traditional ES style, "Area 51" is only slightly different from the album, and "Zarbi" is an epic, twelve-minute mindfuck that boldly goes where no techno track has gone before. Get it! Get it! Get it! I think it's always interesting to hear techno stuff played "live." Kind of gives a different feel to songs you may or may not know already. This one is real strong. BTW, can someone give me a breakdown of who plays what? The order of the artist listing on the inside booklet is different from the back, so I'm not exactly sure who plays which songs. -Phil
