Hello all. This goes out to UK-D, ambient and IDM. Sorry for irritating those on all three (like myself). Lance wrote:

Lance has obviously lost his mind. (That's a joke from me - I think.) Cascade really touched something inside me and reassured me that you don't really need vocals to make an inspired tune. Rather the opposite, IMO. To keep my very creative attention spanning for 35 minutes (part 1-5) is a remarkable feat, which few others does. Lance - listen again. Think. Please. Dread Zone have been picked up by Virgin (or a sublabel), since "Zion youth" is on Virgin. (Darren? Great remix! I'll be hearing you DJ'ing at the Quart-festival in Norway.) If it's a one-off, or a vicious plot from Virgin restraining them from doing anything else but sit home and make music for Virgin the nest ten years I don't know. :) I caught them at the infamous (and much hyped) "Hyperstate Rave" in Oslo 1. May, and they were as good as I had expected. Biosphere played live at Sentrum Scene in Oslo last Saturday, and two things bugged me about this event: - Levi's had sponsored the hole thing, giving free tickets to everyone. This meant that a) the atmosphere was chock full of bad vibes from all the glamour little boys and girls who went because they thought it was a "rave" (ouch! that dreaded word!), b) a lot of people didn't pay any respect to Geir, and talked loudly to each other during the most ambient numbers (obviously they didn't realize someone was on stage). - Bad choice of DJ's before and after. If I were to pick DJ's, I'd choose something ambient/light trance/fairly smooth dance music before, and trance/hard trance after. Not so here. Sentrum/Levi's had picked some female DJ's (Gunhild and a friend of hers) (I'm not dissing females in general here!) who really didn't know how to mix, but had some good tracks. Unfortunately, the real good tracks always came just before something happened, so they were faded out. (Grr...) These girls played before. Afterwards, Strangfruit played his usual mixture of organic house which is really OK, although not in this content. I was standing in front during the hole of Biosphere's concert (mind you - concert, not rave!), and when Strangefruit came on, I was so turned off. I just had to leave. The concert: 5 or 6 new numbers (probably from his forthcoming album), some remixes off the two albums and an easy recognisable "Novelty waves" (surely for the Levi's boys and girls to dance to). I have to ramp and rave a bit: I have a friend who's a DJ. (Roland Lifjell, calls himself Jamability when he DJ's at gigs.) An excellent trance DJ, who is _so_ skillful in what he does. But. Does anybody notice that? Those who hear him play are in exstacy (myself included), but that's too few, since he doesn't get enough jobs, because of the name attraction I mentioned above. All the promoters here are thinking about is money. Sad but true. Big names, many uninspired people who think "raving" equals dressing up and a lousy atmosphere. Anyone out there in Scandinavia or Europe who wants to have him play at their gig? He'll send you a tape of his style for sure (ambient/trance/goa-trance). Just mail me privately, and I'll tell him. Recommended records of the moment: - Pete Namlook & Tetsu Inoue - Eulengasse 62 (album) (Fax) Fantastic environmental sounds - The hole of Going Glabal Series (10 CD-singles/12"es) So many great remixers - David Holmes vs. Alter Ego - Patrick kraut (12") (Harthouse) What's to add? Buy! - Various - New Jersey Drive vol. 1+2 (OS) (album) (Tommy Boy) Contemporary streetsounds - Yaki Da - I saw you dancing (Armand van Helden) (12") (Mega/London USA) Shit song, that's why Armand removed it completely - Traci Lords - Control (12") Juno Reactor instrumental - Billie Ray Martin - Your loving arms (promo 12") (Sire) New Roger S. mixes And so much more. BTW, I just did a remix. Wanna hear it? I'll put it out on my Web-page soon. More details to come. Thank you for paying attention through my hole message. You will be compensated after life. Bandwidth? Probably enough of it for everyone. _/_/_/ _/ _/ _/_/_/ _/ _/_/_/ _/_/_/ _/ _/_/_/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/_/ _/ _/ _/_/_/ _/_/_/ _/ _/_/_/ _/ _/ _/_/_/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/_/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/_/ _/_/_/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/_/_/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ ---onamission---neverstopforlunch---butthenagain---

Wow - that was a mega post. I like your recommended records. In reference to your David Holmes recommendation, I was priveleged to hear the first track of the new David Holmes album last month ("This films crap, lets slash the seats"). It sounds pretty good. It has a massive ambient intro featuring gentle Irish-sounding bell melodies that very gradually builds up. Unfortunately I had to leave before I could hear the rest of the album! Pity. Please could you tell me how I can subscribe to UK-D and ambient.
