I just saw Sahko CD 'Metri' (translates 'meter' (u know, the unit of measure)) as I went to pick up The Ecstacy of Saint Theresa's AstralaVista e.p. (my 3-minute intro scan on it says it's really cool ;)). Could someone review 'Metri' or recommend something from Sahko records? I'm quite new to this list, if there's something written on Sahko that has come out, I've missed it *hint*. pirkka ..they're selling ROD cds for 4$ here - what a laugh.. * now playing (in my head, no walkman): '4st 7lb' by Manic Street Preachers

I have this in my posession (thanks Sue), and it is very interesting. The first half is beat oriented with noises that fade in and out of the mix (and are often not in time with the beat either). I quite lost myself in a mental drift (where I was going is only a mystery) while listening for the first time. The second half is noise (but not as harsh as the noise I've heard before). Very pleasant in fact. Almost subliminal noise. I forgot I was listening to it after awhile until I started to feel like I was in some analog sound manufacturing plant or something. I can hardly imagin any of it being played on a main dance floor. Maybe one track... I got to play some of it (and the Daniel Pemberton thing) on New Years Eve in an ambient room I did with my partner/best friend. We did the double DJ thing in an ambient setting and it went off quite well. One of us would be in control of the beat and the other the noise... We focused on Dub beats most of the night and played beatless stuff under/on top... I got to drop in some of the beatless moise on Metri and it blended wonderfully with the Scientist vs. Prince Jammy. Everyone was lounging around on couches and mattreses smoking pot. Anyone wandering through the room couldn't keep themselves from bobbing their heads with the rhythm. I can't wait to do it again with electronic beats to a crowd who might be more appreciative of that sort of thing. This wasn't much of a techno crowd, so the reggae beats were much more appropriate. -robert ______________________________________________*AudioElectronic*_____ "If BOTH the SAW and the PULSE switches are on, sonic explorers \ then both sawtooth and pulse waves are selected. \ This combination creates an extremely fat sound." Hello, I bought the Sakho/Tension rekkid with the topless woman on it...pretty good. Wierd label art... Is "Rancho Relaxo" also Sakho, or is it only Tension??? Who has this and whaddya think of it? I know these records aren't exactly brand new. Some nice things I picked up over break, with minimal descriptions: DARK ENERGY - UR - Wowee zowee for the happy track on one side of this 2X12". Amazing intro. The rest gets a wee bit samey, but nice samey, ya know? APOGEE/2nd Moon - PEACEFROG - Old, great Curtin more like his Metamorphic discs. DAN CURTIN presents.. - STRICTLY RHYTHM - Obviously I like Curtin, leave me alone, OK? YET...I think this is'nt the best rekkid from him. One side is great, the other is better than most stuff but sounds too tame... ANALOG MAN - DJAX - Great ass electro cut on this. Nice overall, hate plastic bag it came in. Werk-esque blips on top of all four cuts. CMETRIC - b12 - Oldie but greatie. Buy this. Hot pink vinyl but still well pressed...rare, eh? REPEAT - GPR #10 - Oldie but greatie again. I've heard better-produced records (sounds wee bit muddy at times) but what sounds!! 2 songs worth the $8-9!! KENNY LARKIN/Catatonic - R & S - Buy this! All tracks amazing, w/ C. Craig and Mullen rmxs...Better than whole of AZIMUTH, imh-Detroit luvin'-o... BASEMENT TRAX - Jack - Not new and not as great as some old Chicago or DBX... samples classic Detroit. Haven't listened to this one much so... G-pal Bevin Kelly bought CHEAP i/o 2X12" - I think this is amazing, particularly the mellow, vibey, James-bond sounding cuts. Ahhhh yes. Also Ecotourist on Ifach which is superb...info anyone? Is this Black DOg or..? SASHA the Drink Thief from Boston recommended the DJ FUNK on Dance Mania and he was right... classic Chicago, crispity crunchity w/ 303 and samples. Tracs is their purest form. YELLOW WISE RUG is eye-riffic. That's all, take care everyone... -morgan geist

Rancho Relaxo is the "ambient" sub label of Tension. The Sahko/Tension record is out on the Tension label. I think its like a tit-for-tat thing where Abe and Company will release some of their stuff on the Sahko label. I think the stuff on Tension/Rancho Relaxo is excellent, but then i have been following this label for a while now. I like their "sound". sasha the drinkthief in Boston. sashainboston sasha@tiac.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In the beginning, there was Jack And Jack had a grooove, And from this groove came the grooves of all grooves, And while one day, viciously throwing down on his box, Jack boldly declared, "this is really good ham". -------------------------------------------------------------------------
