Most EQ units do not include noise generators and people who oen EQ's seem to think it improves the sound of their systems. I agree that pink noise generators are an provide a solution to setting up a system for an indiviual's room. to improve. Also to get the best benefits from a pink noise generator you require the use of a high quality microphone. If you think your system needs an EQ for boosting treble, bass etc then you really need to upgrade your system - Adding components between the source and output can only add noise to the overall sound. I thought that adding an EQ to my system would be a solution to the lack of bass depth, a friend dragged my to an auditions evening of Naim equipment which instantly changed my mind. The level of detail, quality and the depth that I heard made me change my mind. For a single source system costing 600 pounds I can truefully say that I have not a comparable MIDI of EQ boosted system. Placing the speakers on spiked stands and adding decent stranded cable made a huge difference to the bass depth and overall detail, without any loss in sound quality. I have yet to hear a single system with an EQ which can boast a clean and accurate sound- pink noise cinema systems excluded.

This assumes that the weak link is the system and not what you're playing on it. I've got plenty of bootlegs that can usually do with a little tweaking, usually in the high end. I'm listening to one now, in fact, and I assure you that the EQ'd sound is a *major* improvement over the original muddled mess, even through the simple seven-band toy on my MTX. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@rt66.com) ::: Use the Internet Music Wantlists to find rare records and CDs. ::: Email wantlists@rt66.com with HELP on a line by itself in the message.
