Hi again! Due to floods at the HQ of Brunels computer centre my mail service
has been down for the last week or so...
Just had a marathon session of catching up with this and the ambient list!
Anyway, I got the Bedouin Ascent album: very nice! I didnt much like their
tracks on Chill Out or Die compilations, but this hits the spot. I think
that it's more like the Black Dog than anyone else.
I also got the Vibert/Simmonds album on Rephlex. I swear I can hear a
CZ-101 on this! Harsh electronic sounds and quirky beats and cheesy
melodies: can't go wrong!
And about the GESCOM ep: it is Autechre with some of their mates, Rob Hall,
Darrell Fitton and some other people I cant remember. Rob Hall is a decent
DJ who plays electro-influenced intelligent techno round London and his
track on the EP is the one with the choral pad noise. Very Sublime it is too.
It's the first release on a new label SKAM which, along with a few other
labels like Likemind should help up the standards of UK techno. I think I
ought to send some of them demos! :)
Yeah, talking about demos I got an effects processor on Fri (Zoom 1202) and
have already recorded about 2 hours of material. My old stuff sounds so crap
in comparison! I haven't made any music since september at least, and it's
quite cathartic to have a studio set up again! And to be making music as
excellent as the stuff I'm making! :) (calm down Brendan!)
Kicking the Aphex Twin's ass,
Brendan Nelson
