get ahold of the PDIAL list (dunno the address offhand, easy enough to
find) etc. there's lots of newsgroups that cover everything too. after all,
this _is_ the internet, so it's not exactly hard to find info on the net :)

no, no, no, no. generally speaking, no. SLIP _is_ a realtime connection.
BBSes (and people's boxes, like this one) usually dial their provider (ie
PSI/other commercial carrier, or somebody else's box) and transfer the
files via the g protocol. it's a queing system.
with a provider who doesn't mind, you can have your box call out and
transfer mail back and forth every fifteen minutes if you want. however, if
you're doing that much traffic in email, you might as well be slipped
fulltime.
