Well, while traveling great distances today to put a deposit down for
a sublet, I made it over to Subtopia in NYC.. One of the first thing I noticed
was the unbelievable number of new jungle labels.. phew!.. There were also about
six new releases on GPR.. I must say, I really hated all but two, one being the
Nev, the other something with the word sun in it.. There was a nice ditty by
Mark Broom, definitely a name to watch.. A pretty, pinkish B12 release that
sounds.. uh.. well.. like almost every other B12 record out.. I'd say that this
one was a step in a good direction.. I want to reaffirm that the Jeff Mills
tracs on Tresor are wicked.. The Juan R&S LP was nowhere to be found.. shucks..
Picked up two more Bunker releases (5 and 6).. All are very tracy, but they're
fun, quirky Dj slabs.. There was a nice release on F communications called
D.S. or sometin'.. I'm glad to see that electro is coming back into style..
The packaging thing has really gone off the deep-end, making me feel like I'm
still into indie rock.. I'm just worried that the music will get lost in all the
pretty colors.. However, as it always is when you go to a record store for the
first time in a while, things seem to be flowing.. BTW, I heard the Carl Craig
on Ministry of Sound.. It's so... un-Carl.. It sounds very progressive.. I like
the E2E4 cut, but it doesn't go anywhere.. The other sides sounds like Fabi
Paras wrote it.. who knows, maybe it'll grow on me.. As for the GPR stuff, I'm
flat out dissin' this new bread of english stuff that has cool sounds, but
completely unfunky beats and smalzy melodies.. see ya in hell.
