Mash Up Records has always been about mashing up genres, not necessarily
about what has become known as "mash-ups" in recent years. Kl?ng Kl?ng
parties are the extension of that, they are about being inclusive of
different genres letting them co-exist on the same night and combine them to
make new forms of music. This third release from the label follows this idea
with 6 tracks from 6 artists who appeared live @ KK4 on February 6, 2004.
Matt Green [UK], more known for industrial style hardcore of his Epileptik
releases, goes back to his roots and experiments with breaks.
Mash Up Soundsystem's Concrete Cookie and Dog join forces to supply some
electropunk-headbangin' - 'give me money, give me sex, give me food, and
cigarettes', 'my mind is like a plastic bag' - NUFF!
Duran Duran Duran, [the crazy wizard] gives us what someone describe as
"psy-jungle? others as LAZER THRASH, and surely at least one person would
call it ?shit dipped in fool?s gold? but really its one of those tunes to be
put on @ 2am, to turn the room around.
Halloway makes his debut with frustrated screams and " thunderous breakcore
assault that recalls Somatic Responses at their most danceable" [this good
description nicked from Andrew @ Aural Pressure].
As a base for his crunchy hip hop inspired breaks, that lie somewhere
between scud and snares, AA Kurtz uses a propaganda movie from the 1940's
about the evils of drugs, narrated through a psychopath. Doormouse finishes
of the 12" with a fucked up remix of Mash up Soundsystem [Marriott Mashoop],
loosely based on his trip to the west coast ?oh yeah baby"?NUFF said!
