Its definitely not new, but its been a huge trend for the past several years
amoung a number of producers in "breakcore" (ex: Bong-Ra, Enduser, etc.)
and there's been a pretty big surge in the ragga jungle scene in general.
It's definitely one of the more popular sounds. I guess its an easy way to
hook
people into the more crazy percussion styles because they fall for the
samples.
It is kind of an overdone sound at this point.
But if you just take it for what it is, its still quite fun.
