This auction is for a long out of print MAGNETOPHONE ? TEMPORARY LID
original 12? from Static Caravan Records dated 1998. The record is in
near-mint to mint condition and is limited to 1515 copies! Includes a paper
insert as well. The jacket is in excellent shape as well. I do not believe
you will find another copy in as excellent of shape as this has been in
storage for all these years. Magn?tophone are MATT SAUNDERS and JOHN HANSON,
and they both play keyboards, of sorts. This duo from Birmingham, England
make electronic music with old synthesizers, lots of effects pedals stapled
to a big wooden board, and their fingers crossed. TEMPORARY LID is the first
12? from the (up till now) 7? only Static Caravan label. The insert offers
very little information except ?Please take time to play this loud?. There
are two songs on each side of this release. The first track ?Frankholmes'
Drive? sounds like it has two-time threads running through it. There is the
droning Carnival of Souls organ, then the technology driven racing on top of
it, giving it an unsettling effect. The second track ?Double Leopard? sounds
like reading a book in a laundromat, with the single continuous tone of
(maybe an exhaust fan?) in the background. On the B-side, the first track is
?Temporary Lid?, which continues the dual time toyed with on the first song
on the first side. The organ (I guess it's an organ-like synth) plays a
pastoral tune while the over-time hypes out like a relaxed APHEX TWIN. The
final song, ?I?m In Control Here? gets it name (I presume) from the Outer
Limits-like taking over of the song by a new thread as if your record player
was hijacked mid-song, and at the end as well.
