Perlon seems to be a great label to my ears. The "Superlongevity" comp is a
bit much though. I think its drawback is that the label has crafted such a
particular sound within that techhouse genre, that when its tracks are mixed
so continuously, it wears thin pretty fast. Despite it not being on Perlon,
I recommend you check out the Ricardo Villalobos mix CD, "Love Family Trax"
(with Bambi on the front). It's a much better collection of tracks and, in
my opinion, mixed more interestingly. When you think about it,
Superlongevity is over 2 hours of continuous Perlon tracks, and it just is
too much to keep anyone interested, unless they wanted a mix CD of all the
12" they alraedy own perhaps (I had none at the time). Then again, I have a
rather short attention span, for what it's worth.... (Not much I suspect.)
However, back to Perlon: Akufen "Quebec Nightclub" LP: totally essential
listening. Really amazing stuff, easily the best cut-up techhouse stuff I've
heard yet. Lots of snippets of radio/TV as well as bits of Coil, Madonna and
whoever else has crossed his stereo I imagine. Also includes a Pantytec
remix on one side.
