It's been around for a while, but David Toop's book, Ocean of Sound, is
superb on the links between gamelan music, Debussy, minimalism and
ambient, as well as quite a lot else. It gets a bit dubious at times,
depending on how high your tolerance for New Agery is, but it is genuinely
thought provoking.
