I just picked up The Coup's "Steal this Album". (Dear Dan John,) It's rap. It's real nice. My favorite tracks are: "Me and Jesus the Pimp in a '79 Granada...", "Underdogs", and "Piss on your Grave". The last one grabbed me first. It's funny, has a catchy hook and the sounds (samples?) are fun. The other two showcase the lyrical abilities of lead rapper Boots Riley (he's got writing credits) and have more subdued beats. They're really engaging reflections on what it was like for him growing up. The Coup is: Boots Riley, E-Roc and DJ Pam the Funkstress.
