all y'all pining for squarepusher's glorious days of "feed me weird things" could do worse than to check out jack dangers' new Bomb the Bass 12". the a-side is full of sparkling keys and frenetic breaks, filtered just so, in that particularly vintage jenkinson/spymania way. it sounds a little uninspired, to my ears -- i've heard enough of that particular effect -- but the b-side's got more up its sleeve. B1 is a sort of eerie downtempo track that'll probably appeal to fans of vibert, but my money's on the B2: hella funky, super-chopped breaks paired with some grinding bass action and layer upon layer of burnt-around-the-edges melody, like boards of canada all cranked up after a *really* rough night. i think it's fucking lovely, in fact.
