That's because the original length of Fire Walk With Me is something like 3 and a half hours and when they edited the movie to 2 hours something, some of the weird bits (such as the white horse in the bedroom for instance) were still a part of it, which doesn't make the movie easier to understand... :-)

David Lynch and Barry Gifford who co-wrote Lost Highway have apparently never confirmed to each other what some of the symbolism used in the movie meant. Eventually, they found it more appropriate to see what meaning the viewers would come up with given that there's no "official" meaning to many parts of the movie. However, this is definitely one of my favorite movies ever, be it only for the cinematography.
