I wouldn't call underworld idm, but I can clearly see why they would warrant a discussion here. As for what idm is, you're definitely not going to find consensus. I've heard folks clearly separate the aphex/ae/clark timbre-focused stuff from the more breakbeat/breakcore a la Aaron funk junk. But of course a lot of those artists muddle in both puddles.
