I think one of the things that becomes readily apparent out of this discussion is that you should acquire a particular instrument because you want the *sound* it makes (and you should know that beforehand). Each device has its own "personality," and it's important to know *why* you're buying what you're buying, not just going for something because everyone else is, or because it's "cool."
