I think I finally encountered what sounds like The Album Of 2000 So Far...
Land Of The Loops "Puttering About A Small Land". Those of you who picked
up "Bundle Of Joy" within the past four years know Alan Sutherland's craft
of throwing together dope beats, children's melodies incorporating guest
female vocalists and dee-lish Peter Hook style bass lines, Severed Heads
style looping/delaying, and humorous found-sound segues a la Coldcut. This
new record should definitely keep "Bundle Of Joy" fans happy, but it is
far more spacey and dreamy -- which shouldn't really come as a surprise if
you also own and enjoy the "Refried Treats" EP.
I've uploaded a few choice Mp3s from this album, so you can go to:

* "FRESH POND PARKWAY" w/ Heather Lewis on vocals (3:57) -- 3.7MB
If there's any song featuring an ex-member of Beat Happening that has a
chance of chart potential, this one is it... Addictive tune.
(This song was also released last year on the "Hurry Up And Wait" EP)
* "SINGLE GIRL SUMMER HOME" w/ Takako Minekawa on vocals (4:18) -- 4.1MB
Probably the weirdest most "IDM"-ey song The Loops have done... Disjunct
squelchy keyboard sounds, with Takako doing her best Claudine Longet
impression underneath the din. (Takako Minekawa just happens to be the
voice of the Sony Playstation commercials, in case you didn't know.)
* "HOW TO FEED A SEA MONKEY" w/ Takako Minekawa on vocals (5:26) -- 5.1MB
More pulsing and dreamy, much like several other tracks on the album.
Also on the album worth mentioning but not Mp3ed here..
* "SLUMBER PARTY"
Hoochy-hop by Fisher Price! For all you tinted glass white sedan gangstas
who share their sensitive side by decorating their WU-TANG back window
display with some Sanrio stickers.
* "PARTY POOPER"
A super-long three-part spacey epic. Reminds me of some of the better
earlier Art Of Noise.
