Another one from Freeform! This time on Sub Rosa, check out the news brought to you by Dutch East India. I hope you appreciate my cut and paste manoeuvre's! : ) Pietro. FREEFORM Green Park SR149 (cd) / SRV149 (limited edition LP vinyl) File under: incredibly strange groovy electronica Freeform is the extremely free and open minded doppelganger from Simon Pyke, the prolific English musician. Sampled by Howie B and getting credits for it!; appearing everywhere the action is: Skam, Warp, Worm Interface, Language (on Electric Kingdom as Nudge), Law and Auder, Chocolate Industries (beside Funkstorung, Autechre, Bisk, etc.) Freeform is a 'non-linear' electronician, experimenting and investigating every aspect of electronic music, as should be! For his new album under the Sub Rosa banner, Freeform is playing with the world of acoustic sources... Creating a toy box ready to be opened for fun and pleasure, forget about Pandora's box. Action! Exoticism! Weird things from outer space! Simon Pyke AKA Freeform is guiding, whoever listens to this strange and amazingly beautiful album, to unknown countries. "Green Park" is filled with the sound of a gamelan ensemble facing the gateway to King Kong's lair, with the astonishing sound from futuristic samba anthems, and sometimes with neo-expressionist lullabies close to the Residents. An incredible soundtrack for a movie to create while listening -eyes shut- to this album, the source of inspiration for a Roger Corman James Bond-like featuring exotic dancers abducted by pink and purple aliens while having psychedelic dreams under a snow storm in Bali. This time there will be a rumble in the quiet electronic village, and nobody to save this Island Earth, at last! Looking back to Freeform's already thick discography, one might say that "Green Park" is once again a magical neologism, a habit that Simon Pyke will surely not abandon that soon. If you thought you knew Freeform have a walk in this Green Park and be sure things might change a little bit! -- MATI:K Mati:k SR162 (cd) / SRV162 (lp) File under: bangin' melodic electronica After the concrete experimentalism from Bisk, and the unique and the introspective hip-hop from Multiphonic Ensemble, taste without any restriction (no side-effect detected) the electronic melodies from Mati:k (aka Masanobu Yanagida); you won't believe this guy is a newcomer! Following the albums from Bisk, Multiphonic Ensemble and Rom=Pari, here is the latest Sub Rosa Japanese sensation: Mati:k. For his first album, Masanobu Yanagida chose to explore a very personal approach to the world of electro-oriented music: crushed and distorted beats mixed with an accurate sense of melodies placed in an open field. Far from the Japanese hectic archetype, Mati:k is the perfect remedy to avoid the claustrophobic aspects of electro. Be ready to face a world full of contradictory sensations, constantly mutating through its intensity and straight electronic orientation, far from the usual 'human machines don't think or feel attitude'. As a Wishmaster, Mati:k will provide the necessary energy when you are down, and the quietness deserved to face the stress, but don't expect him to show you the 'way' to follow; listen and you will find the answers. "For his first album, Mati:k, offers a true delight for LFO, Boom Boom Satellites or Ken Ishii fans! An album filled with lots of influences, integrated and reinterpreted in order to reach an highly personnal and unique universe full of tracks ready to be mixed in a DJ set, beside classics like LFO's "Tied Up", Ishii's "Extra"... far from the usual hectic or "kitschy" japanese cliché, electro but not radicaly techno, this opus is ready to face dancefloor's purists as well as the @ home "chill-out" listening envies!!!!!" ___________________________________________ p i e t r o d a s a c c o a u d i o - n i m b u s 9745 lynngrove cr, windsor, ontario, n8r 1b8, canada http://www.rain.org/~audio/grooves/ grooves experimental electronics music mag
