While recovering from having wisdom teeth yanked out of my mouth I am able to catch up on the backlog of music that has invaded my room. One such release is squaremeter - 14id1610s (ant-zen). As indicated on the back: sampling and construction by panacea. This is not your typical panacea (or ant-zen) release. It is an exploration into sound that might be more at home on mego or 12k. Small glitches are exploited, high pitch noises come in an out, occasionally there is a semblance of a beat. Perhaps it is best described as minimal plunderphonics. The most amusing bits on the CD are the samples of Bill Drumond (KLF fame) reading passages from Bad Wisdom (the original readings are avaialbe on the net I believe). An entire track is created around these samples (and it is done very well). In short, I am impressed with this CD. I did not expect this from panacea. Has anyone heard: Panacea - Brasilia (Architettura Vol. 4) ? from what I have read it may be similar to this release (in structure). If so it is going to be a must have. lastly, from the ant-zen web site (which sums up the album better than I can): Squaremeter: a collection of electronic minimalism, pure-tone synthesis and computer-generated sound. this music explores the inner-workings of sound and synthesis and often involves the use of ultra-modern synthesis techniques, in this case, sampling and sound generators. this is experimental post-techno, an up-and-coming genre of sound, and it is intended for the listener who can appreciate its bold sense of exploration, as well as the surreal beauty of the world it evokes. complex digital sound-samples are immaculately re-constructed to feature a subtle interference of sub-tone minimalism. a scientific bridge between sinetone minimalism and sonic mega-sampling which could be visualised as digital ambient. 89% of all samples are taken from various ant-zen releases. sampled, de- and reconstructed by panacea. -daniel: Head Monkey: Mad Monkey Records: http://www.madmonkey.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
