I think that's a great idea. Personally (I'm such an
art conservative) I have heard under ten releases in last
couple years that I care about half as much as the old
stuff (from the UK, from Germany, from Holland, from Detroit, etc.).
There is just such a wealth of great music from the
Dog style to the Ifach style to the AI style...yikes. The only
music I seem to like these days is Klang-related or Playhouse-related
stuff and some of the Basic Channel friends productions.
I can't be the only one. Of course it does bear in mind to remember that
when all the classic stuff came out tons of schlock came out back
then as well. We've just since forgotten it. But I do think there
seemed to be much higher quality music then. It might just be my tastes.
Also - I keep hearing about a new B12 album being on the way.
We can certainly hope it sounds like "Electro-Soma". Pretty
interesting that all of those UK guys are around still except Nuron
but none of them seem to have released same caliber material.
I mean, if you listen to "Mbuki Mvuki", then "Rest Proof Clockwork",
you'll wonder what Plaid could possibly be thinking. Same with
"Reflections" vs "Planetary Folklore", etc. etc. Also heard about a
couple exciting Pure Plastic 12"s featuring old archived stuff including
(gasp) one that features the involvement of Paul Smith (Nuron) himself.
Hope Mark sees fit to release these.
Matt
