i don't know if this has already been mentioned, but... i agree with most of what dear Otto has said (though i don't care for his sententious I'm your parent tone). But, as Otto has mentioned, there are no big labels in IDM. which means that their records come out in limited edition/go out of print fairly quickly. my economics may be rusty (however, I actually did go to an econ class today) but, bootlegs of out of print/limited edition tracks may actually create interest and stimulate future sales for small labels who cannot afford to promote themselves. i know when i have a dub of something that is out of print that i really enjoy, i buy it when it is repressed. maybe that's just me-a self-proclaimed fethishist. however, i do think that most people on this list bootleg as a last resort. i may be wrong and i may be contributing to a stupid thread but... without ryan whitehead
