I was flappering through one of my vinyl crates today looking for something to put on when I found Daniel Ibbotsons "Souped Up" 12". I know it's old (well...) but I still feel like I have to tell you all how wonderfully gorgeous this twelve is. Since the only Clear artists who are getting any attention on this list (there's not much Clear whatsoever.... what's up with you people?) are like Dr. Rockit, Plaid, Jedi Knights and other previously famous artists, I thought I'd enlighten you a bit on the Daniel Ibbotson case, because this is one of the finest EP releases from Clear, and they haven't released many things not worth their weight in gold. Containing 4 tracks, the EP launches off with "The Bends", a lucid electrofunk track with drum'n'bass influences, however not close to the drum'n'bass you hear from guys like bukem or size - i guess it's not to be called drum n bass, but it has got these really fast light clippering drums. disco'n'funk maybe or something. Dunno - however, brilliant track - the bass lifts it all up, and people, this is one of the finest tracks I've heard released by Clear - you who have heard some Clear stuff know how much this means. If I was to compile a "It's all becoming... clearer" this would be one of the first tracks on it. Continuing on the EP you find one Dr-Rockit-esque-jazzlike track, one downtempo-portamento-disco track on the Kraftwerk tip and finally a realish discotrack with subbasses, melodies and rhythms fine enough to have come from <put in your favorite "techno" artist here>. :) I just can't get enough (it's getting hotter, it's burning love - imagine me with these really thing microphones and smokeish pilotglasses + fitting leathercap... ah well...nevermind) of this record. I wonder when Clear are to release an album by this magic man. Listen to the remix on "Single Of The Week" as well... I wonder how it possibly can go wrong... It probably can't. Get your hand on this before it's in the deleted section like the old wondaful Clearstuff. I'm off to listen to it again.
