Yeah, I'm quite familiar with Tortoise. Tortoise's producer John McEntire,
whom I've met on a couple of occasions, probably produced that Surrender to
the Night CD or something from Trans Am. He also has produced Stereolab
and Come. I don't believe he's connected with Autechre, I could ask him
the next time I see him, I don't think so though.
Tortoise is sort of an advant-garde (hate that term) post Krautrock. They
use alot of percussion and electric basses, and a few keyboards for you IDM
geeks leisure.
I highly suggest "Millions Now Living Will Never Die," you can even pick up
this disc at big electronics outlets like "Best Buy" and "Circuit City" for
$12. May I also suggest picking up the newest The Sea and Cake album "The
Fawn." The Sea and Cake are also a band with McEntire in it, except they
have vocals and sound kind of like poppy Velvet Underground but a hell of
alot better.
