I created an MP3 of it too. When you listen to the mpeg you hear all
these nasty phasing and tape-misalignment affects and assume that it's
just a problem with the compression algorithm. But that wasn't the
problem at all. That's actually how it sounded when it came off the
radio!
But the guy who recorded Richard's set at the BDO assured me that
everything stayed in the digital domain. So what went wrong?
I live in Adelaide - Triple J gets delayed by half an hour because we're
in a different time zone. Another thing - I got it off the hills-shadow
frequency (the 90-something rather than the 105.5MHz). Also the BDO
broadcast was a repeat. So possibly the artefacts were caused by these
extra links in the chain.
It sure mystifies me. But it happens a LOT with JJJ in Adelaide.
Sometimes it's mono, sometimes the left-right balance is off. Sometimes
there's phasing...
None of this would show-up in the 28.8 RA though.
