11 tracks release date: april 1 I guess I was one of the few who didn't care too much for their first album. It's not that i disliked it, it's just that i felt it was rather ho-hum. Upon first listen, their follow-up sounds like a much stronger album. The album presents no surprises: it's one extended trip through loops of guitar licks, hip hop beats, the odd vocal sample & more use of effects like fading sounds in & out. Just when the hiphop loop begins to sound redundant, they surprise me and muck the sound around. for example, i was going to criticize em for being unable to change tempo (the same hard-hop sound used in setting sun & others), when 1/2 through they surprise me w/ "it doesn't matter", an acid- house/trance number w/ breakbeat interludes that sounds almost like josh wink. "Don't stop the rock" contains a very familiar (and now cliche) sample & reminds me a lot of vol. one of the "Live @ Social..." compilations on Concrete/ Deconstruction. Not only is there more complex use of samplers & better selection of sounds, but this album is funkier than the first.
