I am reeling. Stereolab is a must see if they come through your town. There was plenty of their patented space age lounge music, but then there were long trancy interludes where hocketing synth overtones, bass, guitar drones, and farfisa noodling merge into a throbbing animal, out on a space walk without a tether... One song in particular broke down to a one note drone that lasted for 10 minutes, into which higher overtones flute around the drone like Tuvan throat singing. Another dubby number brought in light breakbeats over the top of a dubby beat. UI opened, they were boring. Tricky is done with his part of the tour. Gear watch: Farfisa Organ, Moog Source, and the drummer had a drum machine or a sampler he'd bring in from time to time, which sounded like loops from the Boss DR55. The soundman had a Moog Rogue and a Lovetone Meatball on effect send, and he processed sounds from the band at will and triggered sustained drones... And if anyone cares, the band went bowling during the opening act. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Stop thinking, and end your problems" -- Tao Te Ching Home Page, featuring Reagan on Black Velvet, the EMP Compilation CD, samples of my music, etc http://soli.inav.net/~kent/ Kent Williams kent@inav.net CADSI 2651 Crosspark Road Coralville IA 52241 (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)
