Have you ever had the pleasure of seeing the good Dr. Alex spin a set? He
can do hard, straight-up dance stuff, but obviously is more known for
ambience. Well the Aubrey double pack of remixes is kind of like him
spinning a 2 hour ambient set. That said, no, you don't have to like or
even know the original tunes to enjoy the hell out of it. The remixes in
some cases leave the original tunes unrecognizable, and all--the whole of
both discs-- is unmistakably Orb-ed out. Smashing, actually. But wait!
There's more! The insert book has a really nice essay on what writing a
piece about the Orb is like and also a wierd and nice
stream-of-consciousness bit kind of regarding/emulating the music. Buy it.
