I somehow managed to miss St. Luke's beatitude and canonization, but
shit, I'm an atheist, so I can blaspheme all I want. Endemic Void
merely make extremely thoughtful, creatively jazzy jungle, that manages
to avoid both being obnoxiously noodly and being too saccharine and
"trad". Man, I hate trad jazz, and that seems to be the kind that the
junglists seem to be most prone to sampling. Jungle + Ornette Coleman =
happy ozymandias, but it hasn't happened yet. It would be a neat trick,
though.

I got a copy of "Sine God" from a friend for free, and had no idea of
what to expect. I was completely blown away.
Hey, if we can talk about Mouse on Mars and Seefeel on IDM, why not
Moonshake, Laika, Pram, or Long Fin Killie? They're all on Too Pure and
make extensive use of sampled instrumentation (Moonshake's _The Sound
Your Eyes..._ LP proudly advertises itself as being "100% Guitar
Free"). I do think that Moonshake lost a lot when Guy kicked Heather
out of the band (I much prefer _Eva Luna_ to _The Sound Your Eyes Can
Follow_). These days, I prefer Laika's sound (plus Colm of MBV produced
them!).
OK, since I already mentioned both jungle and indie in the same
posting, I'm pretty much obligated to tell you all to run right out and
buy copies of Third Eye Foundation's _Semtex_. You only _think_ you've
heard weird jungle until you've heard this record. Huge squalling walls
of feedback and off-kilter rhythms run through the jungle and dub
treatment. It's all gloriously lo-fi, so IDM people will probably
loathe and despise it, but I can't get enough of that stuff. From
there, it's a short hop to picking up some Flying Saucer Attack and
Amp, both of whom are also tasty.
Ahh, heck, I'll just get it out on the table: everybody on this list
who isn't completely close-minded should run right out and buy the
_Monsters, Robots, and Bug Men_ compilation that Virgin recently put
out (its catalog number is AMBT 11, which should give you some idea
where it's coming from). It's a compendium of "post rock" songs
(whatever "post rock" means -- that's almost as vague and meaningless
as term as "intelligent dance music"), even though it doesn't contain a
Tortoise song.
Speaking of which, you people who told me that Tortoise was good and
stuff -- YOU LIED! I'm devastated! I bought it expecting it to be all
droney, sort of like an IDM version of indie pop, but it just is more
sucky "jazzy" shit with some vibes and a few desultory analog stabs
over the top. I'm never listening to anything that anybody on this list
ever says about music again.

PS -- I prefer to listen to God when it's bright and sunny out,
thanks. Something about John Zorn shoving an alto sax clear down his
throat and listening to God scream a whole bunch tends to interfere with
my sleep. I have no idea why.
