I haven't heard any of Aphex Twin's remixes but GENERALLY, I would say that
remixing today in many cases has gone beyond the point where it can be
called "remix". Today a "remix" is often a totally new track with nothing
in common with the original -- or a totally new track with non-fitting
samples from the original, only put there in a desperate attempt to make it
a remix. Remixes were best a few years ago, when they had just developed
from being a mere re-edit of the original but still had the same base as
the original. An example of groups with good remixes on the singles from
that time are Felix ("Don't you want me" etc.), the KLF, and early Moby
(before "Move").
Naturally there are exceptions.
