You know, you're right. I still don't get into my autechre records (amber & tri repetae)... cos they have few melodies or development, just all wierd beats and structures. This means they are really good I guess... errmmm... minimalists, in the true avant garde tradition. Yes, this does make them a tad esoteric too. My friends will swallow Wagon Christ and Jake Slazenger, tolerate Mu Ziq and Afx, but will just kill me if I play autechre (except for the breakdancers, who dig the electrobeats). So I see your point.

Errrmmm... I gave up asking record clerks for idm long ago. They always look puzzled, and I hate to torture them, you know? I just go straight to the "u" section to find mu-ziq. Egad.
