Someone metioned something about Italy being a haven for bootelggers. Well from what I've heard Italy has cracked down hard on the bootlegging industry there conducting major raids on many of the large bootleg companies. The same has happened in England I've heard. At any rate, one of the last CD's shipped before they where shut down (so the guy at the shop tells me) is this fanatsic live Portishead disc I bought. Absolutely brilliant, all from the mixing board, wonderfully mastered, has 3 new songs, its just fucking incredible. Anyhow another place that I've heard has crazy bootleggers is China. In China I've heard that on the streets of big citys you can buy bootlegged Laserdiscs! Sometimes mastered from another disc, somtimes from a legit tape. You can also buy bootlegged CD-ROM's, which are flawless. When I went to Singapore, they had this huge building called the Sim Lim square (?) I think. Anyhow, the thing is filled from top to bottom with bootlegged software! You can buy new releases for like 10 dollars, with great looking packaging and xeroxed and bound manuals. They also have custom ad ons and missions for games like X-wing and Tie Fighter. Its fucking insane. Here at home, if it wasn't for Bootleggers I wouldn't see half the films from Hong Kong that I do. Bootlegging is hugely rampant in the Hong Kong Video market, but how else can I see Rumble in the Bronx or Fallen Angels? Anyhow to combat bootleggers and make money back the Hong Kong video industry will spilt popular releases between two tapes and charge for each one, regardless of the lenght of the movie. So you have two tapes each like 45 mins long with (part A) and (part B) on the cover. Strange Eh? IDM RELATED QUESTION: Does anyone know whats up with the new Autechre albums domestic(US) release? No one at the shops seems to know anything about it. Also does anyone have a compilation called Source Lab? -Fresh ========================================================================= Fullerton College claims no responsibility to the opinion expressed above (This is an automatic stamp from our Email system and not from the user.) =========================================================================
